Oban, Scotland 2004
The Western Highlands… it has a magical sound. Imagine spending five days in a beautiful 4-star hotel, on the banks of Loch Feochan, photographing subjects under the tutelage of some of today’s most renowned photojournalists, in this world-renowned locale.
Welcome to the FirstLight Workshop in Oban, Scotland
September 19-24th, 2004
A 5-day digital photojournalist workshop that will allow you to immerse yourself in a subject, nurture your photographic instincts, and guide you in digital workflow, shooting, editing and layout.
With your instructor, you’ll choose your assignment, already pre-scouted. You’ll spend mornings and afternoons studying and shooting your subjects, as well as the amazing landscape. At a pre-assigned time, around midday, photographers will return to the workshop headquarters, to download images and discuss the morning’s shoot with a photo editor. You’ll have the afternoon to explore the area, or go back to your assignment to take advantage of the “golden-hour” of photography. Evenings will host projections sessions, critiques, and on 3 select nights, traditional Scottish meal.
The workshop culminates with a final projections session at the Knipoch Hotel, where you’ll enjoy wine and cheese and the company of the friends and people you’ve spent the week photographing. The entire process comes to life with the unveiling of our own FirstLight Magazine: Oban. We will develop, design and complete the magazine; each student will receive a complete PDF version, as well as a copy of the magazine, which will arrive at your home a couple of weeks after the workshop.
Participants will stay at the beautiful Knipoch Hotel, where the workshop is headquartered. Bring your own equipment, or use one of the Olympus E1 digital SLR outfits, which will be available for your use at the workshop. Space is limited; so don’t delay in signing up for this once in a lifetime opportunity.
